An Incomplete 1988 Panini Baseball Sticker Album Still Found a Buyer
This one is a little different from most of the things I sell because I didn’t source it at an auction, estate sale, or thrift store.
I had this 1988 Panini Baseball ’88 Sticker Album since I was a kid.

For whatever reason, it followed me around for decades. It was incomplete — only about 25% complete — and eventually I decided there was no real reason to keep hanging onto it.
I listed it on November 16, 2019.
It finally sold on February 14, 2025.
So even after I decided to let it go, I still owned it for another 5 years and 3 months before the right buyer came along.
A Little History on the 1988 Panini Baseball Sticker Album
Panini sports sticker albums were a big part of collecting culture during the 1980s. Instead of traditional trading cards, collectors bought packs of stickers and placed them into a corresponding album with the goal of completing the book.
That gives old sticker albums an interesting place in the collectibles market. They’re part trading-card collectible, part book, and part nostalgia piece.
Complete albums are obviously more desirable, but this sale showed me that incomplete examples can still have a market.
Someone may remember working on the same album as a kid. Another collector may want a vintage baseball display piece. Someone else may simply prefer an inexpensive incomplete example rather than paying for a finished book.

Because I had owned this album since childhood, I don’t really assign a cost basis to it the way I would an item purchased specifically for resale.
In that sense, this was less of a traditional flip and more of finally turning something I had owned forever into cash.
What I Learned From This 1988 Panini Baseball Sticker Album
The biggest lesson is that incomplete collectibles can still have value.
It would have been easy to look at an album that was only about 25% complete and assume nobody would want it. But collectors aren’t always searching for perfect examples.
Sometimes they’re buying nostalgia.
Sometimes they want a display piece.
Sometimes they simply want an affordable example of something they remember.
That doesn’t mean every incomplete collectible is worth listing indefinitely. This album took more than five years to sell, so I certainly wouldn’t use it as an example of ideal inventory turnover.
But it does reinforce something I keep seeing with unusual collectibles: condition and completeness affect value, but they don’t necessarily eliminate demand.
Another Kind of Inventory
This sale also made me think about all the things we accumulate over the years that we don’t really consider inventory.
Old sports items. Toys. Books. Collections we started and never finished.
You may have owned something so long that it feels like it has no cost and no value. But somebody else may be actively looking for exactly that thing.
The trick is figuring out which items are actually worth the effort of listing.
This incomplete baseball sticker album eventually was.
